Movie #30- The Ward

Bad things happen in the dark

The Ward (2011)

I watched this movie because of one name, John Carpenter. Being one of my favorite directors of all time, it is hard to pass anything of his up. This movie was good, not really that frightening but it didn't have to be. I was really hoping that the film would go Orange Is The New Black style and tell us how all of the characters ended up in the institution but sadly that never happened. I still really liked the characters though, I just really wished there was more of them.

Movie #29- Tucker and Dale vs. Evil

He's heavy for half a guy

Tucker and Dale vs. Evil (2010)

Great idea and creative movie. Really funny! A great cool off after a week of epic Eastwood films, it was short, to the point and never boring. Full of hilarious performances, pretty high up on my most enjoyed movies so far.

Movie #28- The Good, The Bad and The Ugly

In this world there's two kinds of people...

The Good, The Bad and The Ugly (1966)

Brilliant! The last day of Clint Eastwood week and it sure ended on an insanely high note! This movie is just awesome, the best western I think I have ever seen (So far...). The music, let's talk about the music for a minute. To be honest I only learnt of Ennio Moriconne when I first heard he was going to do the score for Tarantino's next film, "The Hateful Eight" (which I am beyond excited for), but after seeing this (and only this) I can already cement him as one of the best composers in Movie history. Seriously, every song, every piece of music is amazing. The theme song of course is absolutely awesome and "Ecstasy of Gold" is one of my favorite instrumental songs ever written (Partly due to Metallica). That standoff scene, CLASSIC! This is one of the best movies I have watched so far here, and I will definitely be revisiting Clint Eastwood in the near future...

Movie #27- High Plains Drifter

Then You Live With It...

High Plains Drifter (1973)

Day 6 of Eastwood week! The second last day of this small marathon of awesomeness. This movie was great, didn't expect the movie that I got. I am just going to say that every Clint Eastwood movie is good, so far it is unanimous. Tomorrow, I dive into "The Good, The Bad and The Ugly" for 3 hours. I don't know if it can top this movie though, such a great story told in a creative and imaginative way.

Movie #26- Blood Work

There's No One...

Blood Work (2002)

Installment number 5 of Clint Eastwood week and I am glad to say is still going strong! Every movie so far has been awesome and this one did not disappoint. Not only was Eastwood great (As per usual) but Jeff Daniels (who I didn't even expect to see in this movie) had an awesome performance as well! 2 more days of Eastwood week, but I know for sure that I will be watching a lot more of his movies in the future.

Movie #25- Escape from Alcatraz

Charley's Butt?

Escape From Alcatraz (1979)

Day 4 of Clint Eastwood week and I am starting to wonder if this man can do any wrong. So far this would have to be my least favorite of the week, but a really good movie nonetheless. Also, I had never actually heard the story on which this movie was based on so it was pretty cool finding out just how accurate the film was. As always, Eastwood was awesome in this movie (Is he ever not awesome?)

Movie #24- Dirty Harry

Well, do ya?

Dirty Harry (1971)

The third chapter in my Clint Eastwood week, and another great one. A classic film that is full of memorable scenes and great quotes. I can't believe it has taken me this long to see it! Great movie, awesomeness.

Movie #23- Unforgiven

Killer of women and children.

Unforgiven (1992)

Day 2 of Clint Eastwood week and boy was it a good one! Another amazing movie. Full of chilling lines, amazing scenes, superb acting and a great score, this movie has it all. It is really hard to say which movie I liked more out of this and yesterday "Million Dollar Baby" because they were both incredible and stand as a testament to the brilliance of Mr. Eastwood. I look forward to what is still to come in the week!

Movie #22- Million Dollar Baby

Tough ain't enough

Million Dollar Baby (2004)

Brilliant movie. I kind of had had the ending spoiled for me from various parodies and what not but it didn't take away from it one bit. Still an amazing movie what is just entertaining from start to finish. Great acting all around, Eastwood and Swank (as well as Eastwood and Freeman) are just great together. Great film. This officially starts what I am deeming, "Clint Eastwood Week". The next 6 days will all be Clint Eastwood films.

#21- Pi

#20- John Dies at the End

#19- Burke and Hare

#18- The Way of The Dragon

#17- The Dead Zone

#16- Fargo

#15- Office Space

#14- Fletch

#13- Bad Milo!

#12- Wet Hot American Summer

#11- It's Such A Beautiful Day

#10- Top Gun

#9- The Crow

#8- Repo! The genetic Opera

#7- The Cabin in the Woods

#6- Drive

#5- An American Werewolf in London

#4- The Babadook

#3- The Voices

#2- The Usual Suspects

#1- Resevoir Dogs

One of the earlier movies still has the top spot, and It is hard to see it being beaten any time soon.

I will be updating this after every 20 or so movies, so stay tuned.

Movie #21- The Cabin in the Woods

Pop Tarts? Did you say you have Pop Tarts?

The Cabin in the Woods (2012)

This movie was totally different from what I expected, and in the best way possible. A creative and original movie that is funny and thrilling. Some great performances as well here, just a really good movie that puts a cool new spin on the Horror Genre

Movie #20- Top Gun

Need For Speed

Top Gun (1986)

Pretty awesome movie, great soundtrack. Oozes 80's in the best way possible. Val Kilmer plays a great typical 80's villain, the kind that you just want to punch in the face without him even saying a word. Really, what can beat Jets flying and fighting to the musical styles of Kenny Loggins? Not much.

Movie #19- Bad Milo!

It's A Metaphor!

Bad Milo! (2013)

I really like Horror comedies. I also really like Movies with absolutely ridiculous premises that manage to pull it off in such a great way. Bad Milo! didn't do this quite as well as a film like Kevin Smiths' "Tusk" (If you haven't seen it, SEE IT!) but it still was quite enjoyable and at times, super funny! Great movie, it was very much my cup of tea. If you like watching men poop out little Gremlin like creatures, this will be your cup of tea as well.

Movie #18- Wet Hot American Summer

Please, Call me Henry

Wet Hot American Summer (2001)

Some of this movie was absolutely hilarious! Really enjoyed it, especially towards the end. I am very much looking forward to watching the Netflix series when I have the time. I wasn't expecting to enjoy this movie as much as I did, But I did!!!

Tuesday, 18 August 2015

Movie #17- Fletch

Look! Defenseless Babies!

Fletch (1985)

I am a big 80s comedy fan so this was a treat. I've yet to see the vacation movies and "Three Amigos" was my only real exposure to Chevy Chase before this. I really love the style of fast comedy in this movie. Some jokes are so fast that you miss them, and it adds to the character and his general wit a lot. The soundtrack is also awesome!

Movie #16- Pi

The World Is More Than Just Math

Pi (1998)

This Movie wasn't really my cup of tea. Maybe it was partly due to me not paying enough attention, but I really just never got behind the story. That isn't to discredit anyone who made the film. The
acting was quite good, and Darren Aronofsky seems to have created exactly what he was going for but It just wasn't really my type of movie I guess. I will be eventually watching "Requiem For A Dream" from Aronofsky though, as I still think he is a great director (The Wrestler being one of my favorite movies).

Movie #15- It's Such A Beautiful Day

Hit By A Train...

It's Such a Beautiful Day (2012)

I can't put my finger on why I liked this movie, but I did. Something struck a chord in there and with it's unique style and thought provoking story, I was enthralled. This movie is sad, It's funny, it's happy, it's at times creepy and It was just really good. Definitely the most unique of the movies I have watched so far.

Movie #14- Office Space

The ratio of people to cake is too big.

Office Space (1999)

Mike Judge directs this really good movie that provides a glimpse into the minds of people working office jobs. It is such a painfully relate-able movie, everybody at least once in their life has wanted to act like Peter does in this film. Whether in be work or school, sometimes you just stop caring. Stephen Root was the best in this movie for me. Milton was highly entertaining and pretty damn funny. The printer scene was just great, just awesome. I wish that I hadn't already seen it copied directly in an episode of "Family Guy" but awesome nonetheless

Movie #13- Drive

Just that. Out of it.

Drive (2011)

Really really cool movie. The driver being  a simple character with simple goals, this movie is brought to life by the dialogue, performances and most of all, the look. The lighting and vibe of this film is just awesome, borrowing from the 80s while also blending a modern gritty tone into the mix. Really enjoyed it. And also, I desperately want the drivers jacket, It is only $100 on Amazon. I really really want it.

Movie #12- John Dies At The End

Robert Marley?

John Dies At The End (2012)

What a strange movie. And I can't really tell if it was strange in a good way or a "What the hell did I just watch?" kind of way. The beginning of the movie was awesome, and there was so many things that I was hoping would come back in the end, sadly they didn't all that often. Maybe it is because I am tired, but this movie just didn't really take my fancy

Movie #11- The Crow

Victims, aren't we all?

The Crow (1994)

Another awesome movie. A dark and sinister tale with enough rock, roll, death and Edgar Allen Poe quotes to make 100 minutes of non-stop enjoyable action. The one-liners given by protagonist Eric Draven during the movie were my favourite parts. Brandon Lee expertly playing a man on a mission with deadly intent and a sick sense of humor.

Tuesday, 11 August 2015

Movie #10- The Usual Suspects

How do you shoot the devil in the back?

The Usual Suspects (1995)

Wow! Without spoilers let me just say that at the end of this movie I was covered in so many chills i could feel my hair stand up. Great! Loved it. I suggest everyone watch this movie. Kevin Spacey steals the show in this film, rightfully winning an Oscar for his performance. This is what I want from a crime movie, I thought the same with Resevoir Dogs. Characters you really like, as well as a thrilling story that you can't predict the next turn of.

Monday, 10 August 2015

Movie #9- Fargo

You Betcha!

Fargo (1996)

Really fun movie. Steve Buscemi stole the show here, but that may be a be a little bit biased coming from a big fan of his. Frances McDormand was also really good, funny and convincing. I would be lying if I said I wasn't hoping for more with this movie but in the end I really enjoyed it! Worth a watch indeed.

Sunday, 9 August 2015

Movie #8- The Babadook

Dook, dook, dook

The Babadook (2014)

Ladies and gentleman, this is how you make a horror movie. I never expected going in that I would love this movie as much as I did. It is so damn creepy, A must see for any horror fan. I really like that this film came out of Australia (My place of residence) as well, with it's low budget and great performances it really gives hope for more great films coming from the land down under. Jennifer Kent made her directorial debut with this movie and I am really excited to see what she does next, because this movie was absolutely awesome.

If you like to be scared and creeped out, see this movie
If you like a well written, story driven film, see this movie
If you like movies, well, see this movie
